VR Experience

In this blog post, I want to tell you about my experience with VR and talk about it a little bit. The first time I used a VR device was when I was in 10th grade. It was an attraction at a shopping center playground. Me and my friend had never seen such a thing before so we were interested. As soon as I tried out the VR headset, I was shocked. It was a simple roller coaster simulation but it felt so real. I even got a little bit of motion sickness from it. We had a lot of fun with it that day and that was it. I had no idea how useful and important it would become. Back then, VR was not as popular as it is now. (At least to me) Nowadays, its much more common and a lot more people use it. There is new content provided for VR everyday. Thanks to that, a lot of amazing things are being achieved with VR. You can use it to learn, share, play, socialize, discover and more. You want to see Tokyo but you cant actually go there? You can use VR to do that. As I said in an earlier blog post, thanks

Aurasma

Resim
Hello again. Today I have a very interesting app to talk about. It's called Aurasma. (or HP Reveal) Basically what it does is, combining real life and virtual creations. Thanks to this app we can experience augmented reality very easily with our phones. Its very fun and I think it could be a useful tool in classrooms as well. It would make lessons a lot more fun and interactive. Now, I'm bad at explaining so you should go, see it with your own eyes. Just download the app "HP Reveal" on your phone and then follow me there. Click to follow  or use my username "nilozk" Then, open your camera and point it towards the image below. Watch magic happen! (Literally)

Resim
What is this mysterious QR code you wonder? Well, why don't you just figure it out yourself... ...Actually, its nothing mysterious. Just my Powtoon video that I already shared before on this blog. I wanted to share it again using a QR code. You can easily scan it and it will take you to the video.

Second Life

Resim
Hi again! I want to share my Second Life experience with you guys. First of all, I have to admit that I used to think Second Life was just an online game platform. I thought of it as Club Penguin for older people. However, recently I found out that it was much more than that! Its basically an online virtual world that people can use for many different reasons. While some people can use it to just socialize or play games, it can also be used as an education platform by others. Its a whole world inside of your computer. When I first logged in, there were many people just chilling out and chatting in the main space. I interacted with some of them. I also got to pick myself a fancy avatar. (She is a witch, I think) Later, I went to my virtual university and it was so cool. I was pretty impressed with how realistic it looked. I had a lot of fun just flying around our campus. (I wish I could actually do that) It was a pretty nice experience. I think its amazing what we can achieve wit

Mindmeister

Check it out I created a mind map using Mindmeister. Its a chart showing how to use "Each" and "Every" in the right sentence. It might be useful for students who get them confused. Similar to this, you can create your own mind map using different websites or apps. This way, you can help students visualize and remember your content better. Especially if they are visual learners.

Kahoot!

Quiz here! Hi everyone. Today I made a Kahoot quiz about "Connecting Words." Its a really easy and quick quiz for the beginners of English. I think it can be very useful to use this quiz in class to help students understand the topic better. Kahoot is really easy to use, I made this quiz in less than 15 minutes. I think teachers should use this website and other websites like this to make their lessons more fun and interactive. Even as a university student, I love it when teachers do these kinds of stuff in class. I really recommend it.

Storybird

Read here I adapted a short story by Daniel Errico in Storybird. I think its a very nice short story for children because it shows that our emotions are what makes us human and that they're okay. This could be nice story to read in class as an activity. Storybird is really easy to use to create short stories/poems like this. If you want to check it out just click the link.

Powtoon Video

Here~ Hi again, today I have a Powtoon video for you. In this video I tried to explain the differences between adjectives and adverbs for beginners of English. I think the video is better suited for young viewers. These kind of videos can be very beneficial in the classroom as you can create them however you like. The visuals can make the lecture way more interesting and fun.

My Vidcast

Watch here! So today, I did a vidcast showing you my favorite language learning apps. I think studying with apps is really fun and useful. Since we use technology everywhere now, why not use it to study? These apps are really easy and quick to use, they also motivate you a lot. I really like practicing my language skills this way so I hope these apps will help you as well. Give them a try.

My First Podcast

Listen here! Hi! Today I did a very short podcast and gave some language learning tips based on different learning styles. I kept it simple since this is kind of like a tryout process for me. I might do some more useful and longer podcasts in the future. I think studying should be done in the most efficient way possible and for that, you need to know well what works best for you. Practicing a language in a way that bores you and doesn't benefit you can be really discouraging. You need to figure out your way of doing things. This podcast may give you some ideas on what you can do. I hope you like it.

Welcome

Hey there and welcome! I'm Nil Özkan and I'm an English Language Teaching student in Istanbul University. In this blog, I'm going to write about pretty much anything that interests me and stuff that's on my mind. I might do some interviews with students from all around the world. So stay tuned for more posts.
